Knowledge is power.
Yesterday was “Autism awareness day”.
Kinda missed it. But still want to contribute.
I only got my diagnosis a few months ago, but it has really helped me to understand myself better.
And that there’s nothing “wrong” with me. I’m just a little bit special.
There is still much to be learned about this condition, and much more research is needed.
Especially when it comes to women with autism. Since it does not express itself in the same way in both genders.
And many women go their whole life undiagnosed, due to that it’s not as easy to discover if you are high functional.
It’s not easy to go through life with this disorder without the proper help,
and understanding from the people around you. Trust me, I know.
Without the needed support, many starts to suffer from depression as well.
Always thinking there’s so many things wrong with them,
and never understanding why mundane things that are so easy for others,
are almost impossible for them.
Always feeling weird and misplaced.
And thanks to this, they often get diagnosed with various mental illnesses instead,
and being given medication that don’t do anything for them.
And in many cases, it only makes things worse.
Since they aren’t getting help with the root to the problems.
And, you can’t “cure” autism.
But with the right knowledge and support,
you can still live your life to the fullest.
And I think that’s all everyone really wants.
I’m starting of small, but I have opened a society6 store.
Not much in it yet, but feel free to browse around.
And maybe suggest any of my artworks
that you would like to see in the store. ^^
